The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Luzon (DSWD-3) has extended assistance to families who were affected by a magnitude 7 earthquake in the province of Abra last week.

DSWD Regional Director Marites Maristela said on Monday that 6,400 family food packs worth some PHP2.9 million on Sunday reached the capital town of Bangued on board four delivery trucks of the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau.

“Ang paghahatid ng mga relief items ay kaugnay sa patuloy na operasyon para sa pagtugon sa mga apektadong pamilya ng Magnitude 7 na lindol na yumanig sa mga lalawigan sa northwestern Luzon at sa mga karatig na rehiyon (The delivery of the relief items is part of the continuing response operation to the families affected by magnitude 7 earthquake that jolted provinces in northwestern Luzon and nearby regions),” she said in an interview.

Maristela said the relief augmentation was in response to the request of DSWD Field Office-Cordillera Administrative Region Arnel B. Garcia and the result of the Luzon Stronghold Resolution No. 2 establishing the inter-regional operation for disaster response and early recovery through synergy and convergence.

She also said the DSWD-3 remains on standby and is prepared and ready to provide additional support and assistance to the affected areas. (PNA)
