Fulfilling his dream to be a freediver, Filipino-American vlogger and model Wil Dasovich set another national record for the longest underwater breath hold.

On August 6, Dasovich shared on his Instagram the milestone that he made after recording a 5:39 minute during his first take on the longest under-breath hold.

In the said post, he also shared how he got invested in participating in such a activity when he learned about its health benefits.

“I was watching Joe Rogan on a Sunday afternoon talk about the health benefits of breath holds,” he said. Dasovich also disclosed that he had weekly training with the current world champion for underwater breath hold, Florian Dagoury.

“We had weekly meetings; I did what he told me to do, and just like that, I joined his army of 5+ minute breath-holding mutant students from all over the world,” he said.

A day after he set a record, Dasovich shared that he had already beat his first-day record after staying underwater for 5:44 minutes.

Making a name for himself in his new hobby, Dasovich also used the opportunity in his post to encourage individuals to not lose hope in doing what they want to try, as he also came from scratch before investing in such an activity.

“Moral of the story: don’t be afraid to ask someone for help, and if you want to be the best, learn from the best! I walked into a freediving competition four months ago with no coach or training and tried to do this all on my own via watching YouTube videos,” he said.

With this, Dasovich wishes to continue his goal to participate in freediving and soon make a new record in the said activity.

“I can’t wait to get in the ocean and learn more disciplines in this beautiful sport. And who knows, maybe I might compete again in the future. But for now, I rest and celebrate!” he said.

The said activity was launched by Aida, an international organization built for freedivers. Currently, the title holder in the Philippines is Marese Secades, who has a time of 06:14, while Dasovich clenched the third spot for his new record.
