A couple’s first wedding anniversary on an island goes completely haywire in “Lost in the Stars” film starring Zhu Yilong as He Fei, Ni Ni as Shen Man, Janice Man as Li Muzi and Du Jiang as Zheng Cheng.

The movie is written and produced by Chen Sicheng, considered as one of the trailblazers in contemporary Chinese cinema and is also known worldwide for his “Detective Chinatown” trilogy.

“Lost in the Stars” is adapted from the ‘90s Russian film “A Trap for the Lonely Man.” The movie follows the disappearance of He Fei’s wife, Muzi not long after they’ve arrived at the island to celebrate their first anniversary as a married couple. He Fei reports to the local police but the case has been dismissed due to lack of strong evidence. As he continues to search for his wife, he wakes up one morning only to find a woman in his room claiming to be his wife. Relentless on finding his wife to the point of insanity, he hires a lawyer named Chen to prove that the woman has faked her identity and to finally unravel the truth on his wife’s disappearance.

From recent interviews, Zhu says that his character is something new to him, “As I began reading, my heart was calm and steady. But as I reached the end, I couldn’t help but gasp in shock — the ending was completely unexpected. The character intrigued me greatly. He is vastly different from me, making the role one that I have never done before.”

The crime thriller is co-directed by Rui Cui and Xiang Liu. Suspense is Cui’s most favorite genre, and he finds the story full of intrigue, with layers and layers of surprises that will keep the audience at the edge of their seats. “I hope that the movie conveys a positive message to the audience, empowering them to tackle life’s challenges with a positive mindset. Also, by moving the story in a foreign land, I wish to foster the development of local suspense films and attract a wider international audience.”

The movie is also China’s biggest hit for weeks when it opened and has so far amassed US$485 million at the box-office worldwide.
