A voice worthy to be heard, Filipina Michelle Mariposa is one of the seven 2023 Sullivan Awardees of the William Matheus Sullivan Foundation, granting her ten thousand dollars and a five-year program for professional development.

The Sullivan Foundation called for applications on August 18, while the auditions were held on October 29 to 30, and the results were announced on November 2.

On the same day, Mariposa posted on Instagram that she was being selected as a Sullivan Awardee: “God is good! All the time! So incredibly happy (and still very shocked) to share that I have been named one of the 2023 Sullivan Award winners,” she wrote in her caption.

Mariposa has long been an achiever; she graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in psychology and music, obtaining a double Summa Cum Laude honor.

She continued her mission to “communicate truth and beauty through music, poetry, and rhetoric” by joining and participating in various orchestra concerts, recitals, and competitions.

Her incredible talent led her to become a mezzo-soprano at the Chicago Opera Theater and the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.

Mariposa is currently preparing for Chicago Opera Theater’s production of Shostakovich’s “The Nose,” to be held at Harris Theater from December 8 to 10.

Mariposa deserves the honor, especially as she honors her own mission turned into a blazing passion, always giving the greatest performance in her lifetime.
