Taylor Swift’s short film ‘All Too Well’ re-recorded version of her fourth album has probably had you processing the barrage of emotions that has wrecked everyone. The video, which debuted alongside the release of Red (Taylor’s Version) on November 12, starring Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink that lasted 15 minutes, has so much revelation.
Fans were quick to spot that the video was jam-packed with Easter eggs, from the appropriate color of Sink’s hair and the years after the couple’s break up. Here are some of the Easter eggs that we discovered in the masterpiece short film.
1.) The Age Difference
The second chapter, titled “The First Crack in the Glass,” shows an eye-opening dinner at which Sink’s character begins to notice hidden flaws in her relationship due to the age difference, all of which appear to resemble Swift’s relationship with Gyllenhaal.
Swift and Gyllenhaal began dating in 2010 when Swift was 21 and Gyllenhaal was 30. It is not coincident that she chose two famous actors with relative age differences wherein O’Brien is 30 years old, while Sink is only 19 years old.
2.) Sink and O’Brien’s Wardrobe
Sadie Sink’s dinner party outfit, which features a black turtleneck and her distinctive red lip, is similar to Swift in her first-ever TikTok video. She showcases her previous musical eras. Furthermore, O’Brien’s attire is eerily similar to Gyllenhaal’s, right down to outfit essentials like beanies, coats, plaid shirts, and woolen scarves.
3.) Swift’s Red Scarf
When referenced in her other works, the scarf is more of an easter egg, but it is one of the most important symbols in the Taylor Swift Cinematic Universe. In one of the film’s opening scenes, Sink enters her partner’s house and places her red scarf on the stair railing, while Swift sings in the background, “And I left my scarf there at your sister’s house, and you have still got it in your drawer, even now.”
4.) “Dancing ‘Round the Kitchen” Scene
If you look closely at the scene, you will notice a contrast between the blue light of the refrigerator behind O’Brien’s character and the golden hue of the morning sun peering in from the kitchen window behind Sink. This contrast displays the guys’ coldness and how he was beginning to fall out of love at this point, while Swift’s character is still radiating the warmth of her love for him.
5.) The Book
The final chapter, which takes place 13 years after the link, leads us to the present day. It depicts Swift at the debut of her novel, coincidentally titled “All Too Well.” One TikTok user mentioned that the book, available to purchase as a notebook on Swift’s retail store, is the same one she wrote in her autumn-themed TikTok video.
6.) The Car
Apparently, Taylor Swift has already confirmed fan speculation that the vehicle in All Too Well is a 1989 model. As a result, many fans predict ‘1989’ will be the next album to be re-recorded.
7.) Her 21st Birthday Party
Swift’s 21st birthday party is presumed to have been skipped by Gyllenhaal, as documented in the song “The Moment I Knew.” “And they are all standing around me singing, ‘Happy birthday to you,’ but there was one thing missing, and that was the moment I knew,” she sings on the track about the last straw in her relationship at the time.
8.) Wearing Her Ex’s Plaid Shirt
In the fifth chapter titled “The Reeling,” Sink is seen tossing and turning in her bed, wearing a plaid shirt previously worn by O’Brien’s character in the video. Another lyrical reference from “All Too Well” is “after plaid shirt days and nights when you made me your own.”
9.) “White Horse” Music Video Reference
Sink’s character, who is still hurting from her breakup, sits glumly in a position and scene identical to Swift’s “White Horse” music video, in which she is also dealing with heartbreak.
