ABS-CBN Music Marches To 16 Wins In 12th PMPC Star Awards For Music

ABS-CBN’s commitment to champion Filipino talent in music was in full display at the recent 12th PMPC Star Awards for Music, where 16 trophies went to albums, songs, and artists from ABS-CBN Music record labels.

Leading the winners from Star Music is the Himig Handog 2019 album, which won Album of the Year and Compilation Album of the Year. A collection of songs that were finalists in ABS-CBN’s songwriting competition Himig Handog, the album represented some of the best work by Filipino songwriters from all over the world in 2019.

ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo shared the victory with everyone that contributed to the album.

“Akin pong ipinaaabot ang aming pasasalamat from ABS-CBN Music and I would just like to share this award sa lahat ng mga composers, finalists sa Himig Handog 2019. At sa lahat ng mga singers, interpreters na nagbigay ng kanilang talento upang bigyang buhay ang mga napakagagandang awitin sa Himig Handog 2019. Muli maraming, maraming salamat sa PMPC Star Awards for Music sa walang sawa niyong pagsuporta sa ating local music industry. Mabuhay ang musikang Pilipino and to God be the Glory,” he said in the awarding ceremony that was shown online last October 10.

Another big winner that night was a track from Himig Handog 2019, which is “Mabagal” by Daniel Padilla and Moira Dela Torre. The jazzy tune written by Dan Tañedo actually won the songwriting tilt and brought honor anew as it was chosen by Star Awards as Song of The Year and Collaboration of the Year. Daniel also won Male Recording Artist of the Year for his performance in the song.

Meanwhile, Idol Philippines finalist Lucas Garcia and grand winner Zephanie were named New Male Recording Artist of the Year and New Female Recording Artist of the Year, respectively.

International sensations KZ Tandingan, Inigo Pascual, and Jake Zyrus also took home trophies. KZ won Female R&B Artist of the Year for “Halik sa Hangin,” Inigo’s “Next In Line” was awarded Revival Recording of the Year, while Jake’s Evolution was named R&B Album of the Year.

Completing the winners from Star Music are “Pinapa” by Ianna Dela Torre (Dance Recording of the Year) and Lara Maigue’s self-titled album (Pop Album of the Year).

For DNA Music, New Group Artist of the Year went to Three Two One while Cool Cat Ash was named Novelty Artist of the Year. Her song “Mataba” also won Novelty Song of the Year and “Oryang” by Davey Langit took home Folk/Country Recording of the Year.

Aside from the winners from ABS-CBN Music, ABS-CBN also celebrates the wins of Kapamilya stars Regine Velasquez-Alcasid (Female Recording Artist of the Year, Female Concert Performer of the Year), Sarah Geronimo (Female Pop Artist of the Year), and Lea Salonga (Concert of the Year – Perfect Ten).
