Another mall in this city has become a venue for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration.

Gaisano Grand Mall Tibungco is the latest to support the government program to provide Filipinos and resident aliens with the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card or the national ID.

A portion of the mall’s ground floor has been designated as a registration site from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays.

PhilSys-Davao, in a November 3 social media post, said the Philippine Statistics Authority would prioritize applicants who completed Step 1 registration.

“Walk-ins are highly discouraged and shall only be accommodated if there are no-show(s) of registrants with confirmed appointment or when a certain time slot is vacant,” the post read.

A netizen, Daisy Mae dela Cruz Maneja, asked PhilSys-Davao on Facebook what she must do after she lost her appointment slip.

Maneja was assured she would still be accommodated for the Step 2 biometrics process.

Three other Gaisano malls (Bajada, Grand Toril, and Toril), SM Lanang Premiere and Ecoland, and NCCC Mall Buhangin and VP Bajada likewise have PhilSys sites.

National ID registration resumed here on October 11 after it was halted in May due to quarantine restrictions.

As of November 10, a total of 40,264,550 have already registered for the PhilID while more than three million cards have been delivered by the Philippine Postal Corp.

Six million more cards are waiting to be dispatched.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.

It also seeks to boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions. (PNA)
