3 Rural health units (RHUs) in Davao Oriental received RxBox telehealth devices from the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) last 22 December 2021. The RHUs in Tarragona, Manay, and San Isidro in Davao Oriental received one RxBox device, one CPU, and one router from DOST XI and computer peripherals from the Department of Health XI (DOH XI).

RxBox is a telemedicine device capable of capturing medical signals through built-in medical sensors, storing data in an electronic medical record (iClinicSys), and transmitting health information via the internet. It is a research program aimed to provide better access and reduce the overall cost of life-saving health care services in target Rural Health Units / Local Health Centers in GIDA (Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas) municipalities all over the country.

A total of four participants, composed of three registered midwives and one IT officer, attended the said training. The participants did a return demonstration to assess their learnings and have hands-on use of the device. For the year 2021, DOST-XI conducted seven training events and deployed a total of 24 RxBox units in different RHUs in Davao Region. (Information from DOST XI S&T Information and Promotion)
