Manila representative Karen Ibasco was crowned as this year’s Miss Philippines-Earth after competing among 39 other aspirants on July 15 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
This 26-year-old University of Sto. Tomas medical physicist received the crown from predecessor Loren Artajos who took the place of resigned 2016 Miss Philippines-Earth Imelda Schweighart after facing numerous issues in November 2016.
Other four candidates who won 2017 Miss Philippines-Fire, Miss Philippines-Water, Miss Philippines-Air, and Miss Philippines-Eco-Tourism were Misamis Oriental’s Nellza Bautista, Caloocan City’s Jessica Marasigan, Olongapo City’s Kim De Guzman, and Batangas’ Vanessa Mae Castillo, respectively.
As of press time, Ibasco is now preparing for the upcoming competition as she will vie for 2017 Miss Earth to represent the Philippines on November.
On her Instagram account, Ibasco heartfully thanked her supporters assuring them that she will give her 110% in representing our country in the international stage.
I want to take this time thank every single one who supported me in my Miss Philippines Earth journey. It's so surreal to me up until this point of time to win the crown. There are no words to fully express my gratefulness. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! Rest assured I will give my 110% to best represent the Philippines in the international stage to continue the legacy of what Miss Earth is all about. I can't wait to shout Karen Ibasco, Philippines!!! To God be ALL the glory!❤️ #MissPhilippinesEarth2017 #EcoWarrior #EarthWarrior #mpe #grateful #blessed #crown #beautyqueen #phooftheday #bestoftheday #savetheearth #gogreen #environment #loved #missmanila2017 #missphilippinesearth
Before Ibasco won the 2017 Miss Philippines Earth title, she also joined the Binibining Pilipinas Beauty Pageant last year but failed to get the title.
To everyone who supported me from beginning to end from the bottom of my heart thank you so much for making my Binibining Pilipinas journey a memorable one. Not everyone is given this kind of opportunity. I would not have gone this far without the people who guided, mentored and have given their time and effort to me all this time. To my family, KFamilia, VG, friends, co-workers, fans and most especially to Jesus. I would carry everything I have learned as I continue to live out my advocacies.
