Jobless Filipinos Reach 3.76 Million In June 2021- PSA

The number of unemployed Filipinos increased to 3.76 million in June 2021 compared to 3.73 million in May 2021 as more people entered the labor force amid the pandemic, as per preliminary data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) released on Tuesday, August 3.

According to PSA, the unemployment rate in the country in June 2021 remained the same as the 7.7 % reported a month ago.

In June 2021, the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) was 65.0%, or approximately 48.84 million Filipinos aged 15 and up who were either employed or unemployed. This data is higher than LFPR in May 2021 which is 64.6%.

The underemployment rate, or the percentage of the working population looking for more hours of work, was 14.2% or 6.41 million people. This is slightly higher compared to 12.3% or 5.49 million people in May.

On the other hand, 45.08 million Filipinos have their jobs in June 2021 that remain unchanged the employment rate to 92.3% from May 2021.

Moreover, LFPR in June 2021 was reportedly higher for men with 76.3% compared for women with 53.7 percent. With that, men had a higher employment rate of 93.2% than women with 91.0%. But, the underemployment rate among men was also higher with 15.5% compared to women with 12.4%.

The unemployment rate in May 2021 was the second-lowest reported since the beginning of the year, after the 7.1% that was reported in March 2021.
